Former F1 driver Jean-Eric Vergne has made quite a career for himself outside of the sport. The French driver could not really show his full potential while in F1 but has won multiple championships and Formula E. He recently jokingly challenged Formula One world champion Max Verstappen and mentioned that he won’t be unbeatable in Formula E.

Vergne was part of the Red Bull driver academy, just like Verstappen. He raced for Toro Rosso from 2014 to 2015 alongside Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat. While both his then-teammates raced for Red Bull, he did not get his shot.

So he left the sport for Formula E, where he asserted his dominance and won back-to-back world championships in 2017 and 2018. He mentioned he may not beat the F1 world champion in his own series, but stands a sure chance in Formula E.

JEV respected the fact that the Dutch driver is too good for him in F1, but in Formula E, it would be a different ball game. He even hinted that he might best Max if he came to his turf. “I’ll tell you: if I raced in Formula 1 against him, I’m going to be completely honest with him. You, I wouldn’t beat him,” said Jean-Eric Vergne.

“He’s clearly at the top of his game in Formula 1, and he could be unbeatable. If he came to Formula E, he wouldn’t be unbeatable. I can bet what you want on that. I think I’m the best!” said the former Formula E driver.

Although it is an interesting prospect to see him compete against the F1 world champion on the streets in Formula E, it is highly unlikely that the Red Bull driver will take this challenge and switch series to prove the former Toro Rosso driver wrong.

But hopefully, if there is an opportunity to have a race between them on neutral ground, then it would be really fun to see. Let’s see if there is such a possibility somewhere in the future for both of them. It would certainly be close between the champions, that is for sure.
