It’s not every day that someone from the junior formulas gets the chance to drive for a Formula 1 team. But Logan Sargeant is in the driver’s seat to bag the vacant spot in Williams 2023 driver lineup. Recently, he was caught on camera talking about what he needs to do to secure that seat for 2023.

It was announced by the Williams team that Nicholas Latifi will not be a part of the team from 2023 onwards. Naturally, him leaving has left a vacant spot on the 2023 Formula 1 grid. But it isn’t as open-ended as it would appear.

According to Jost Capito, the prime candidate for that seat is American Logan Sargeant, but only if he acquires enough Super License points at the current season of F2. But before that is made certain, Sargeant will replace Alex Albon for FP1 at this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix.

Before we heard the American talk about his approach to FP1 at Mexico, we heard someone saying, “He’s doing a George Russell now,” as he took his t-shirt off.

Sargeant was then heard saying, “Pumped up! Yeah I’m just going to get in and see what really happens.”

He went on, “That’s all I can do, just pedal it. Pedal it fast.”

However, everything hinges on the American securing enough Super License points to compete in Formula 1. But according to team principal Jost Capito, if he fails to do so, Williams has a Plan B in place.

Williams ready with Plan B if Logan Sargeant fails to secure Super License points for F1 debut

Logan Sargeant will be the No. 2 driver for Williams in 2023. However, this will only be possible if he does enough in his current league to finish 6th or higher to secure the requisite Super License points for 2023. But according to the team, they have a Plan B in place if the American fails.

He explained, “There will be drivers who don’t get a contract. There are still very good drivers and they have the Super Licence points, so everything is fine.”

Logan Sargeant will compete at the F2 finale at the Yas Marina Circuit at Abu Dhabi. Considering he is already 3rd in the driver’s championship in F2, it seems he will be able to secure a seat at Williams for 2023.
