Sainz and Norris were teammates at McLaren for two years. The Spaniard joined the Woking-based team in 2019, which was also the first year for the Briton. The two got along well, understood each other’s game, and hence earned their nickname “Carlando.”

However, what Sainz recently did in a promotional event in Brazil would’ve surely brought tears to Norris’ eyes. At least, that is what Charles Leclerc thinks.

While addressing the media, Sainz Jr. was naming his teammates, “I’ve had a few teammates.”

I’ve had Max [Verstappen], then [Daniil] Kvyat, then Nico Hulkenberg, and you? [Looking at Charles Leclerc], then Lando [Norris], and then you [Leclerc].

After a long pause, Leclerc suddenly murmured, “You forgot Lando [Norris], he’s gonna cry.”

They both start laughing after the exchange, and so did the audience.

How did Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris fare at McLaren together?

A Red Bull graduate, Carlos Sainz joined McLaren in 2019. After two bitter-sweet years at Renault, the Madrid boy finally decided to make the move to be partnered with Lando Norris. Sainz replaced outgoing two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso.

Norris, who also joined the Papaya team at the same time, soon began to have a good bonding with his Spanish counterpart. The Briton, who was earlier a junior driver at the Woking-based team, joined them and replaced Stoffel Vandoorne.

The 2019 season was promising for the two new drivers on the team. While much experienced Sainz managed to pick up 96 points and a podium, Norris managed 49 points, further helping McLaren to stay in P4 in the constructors’ championship.

The next season was better when it comes to points for both drivers. While the Spaniard picked up a podium and 105 points, Norris picked up 97 points helping McLaren to climb P3 in the constructors’ championship. The following year saw Sainz leave McLaren for Ferrari to partner with Charles Leclerc.
