Can Lewis Hamilton‘s performance in 2022 be regarded as his last effort before he leaves the sport for good? Well, we don’t know about that, but the seven-time world champion has tasted unfamiliar struggle off-late. And it seems he is doing everything in his power to turn things around. So much so, the Mercedes engineer revealed how he overworks to make sure he has all the right tools at the end of the day.

Mercedes trackside engineering director, Andrew Shovlin, recently talked to Autosport in an exclusive interview. There he revealed about Hamilton and the way he has been coping lately. He revealed, “He’s become more and more comfortable and settled within the team [over the 10 years], and confident and happy to go and speak to different people about different areas. He’s just drawing more effectively on the resource.”

The Mercedes engineer further shared on their star driver, “Very often you’ll see Lewis as being one of the last drivers to, if not the last driver, to leave the paddock. He’s just going round and round, making sure he knows what it is he needs to do.”
“But, ultimately, if he [Hamilton] finds an area that he thinks he’s not good enough at, he just solves it by hard work.”
Shovlin also shared the amount of work the drivers have had to do in recent days. The car development feedback, the tire management, the perfect qualifying window, it’s all too huge in recent times.
Will Lewis Hamilton come out stronger for the 2023 F1 season?
Lewis Hamilton joined Mercedes in 2013 after spending some decent years at McLaren. The Briton replaced retirement-bound Michael Schumacher at the Silver Arrows. From there on it was a fairytale run for the Briton as he picked up six driver’s championships with the German team.

However, in recent years, he’s visibly struggling. The man with 103 wins to his name, failed to win at least once in 2022 and his last win came in Saudi Arabia in 2021. Hamilton, who has seven world titles under his belt, finished the championship in P6 last season. Statistically, he is very much struggling.
The impact is clearly visible when he is compared to his new teammate George Russell, who recently rubbed salt on Lewis Hamilton’s wounds. Russell picked up the only Mercedes win last season and finished 35 points and two places ahead of his compatriot and teammate in the driver’s standings. Hamilton, who was a championship contender last season, failed to make much of an impact.

When Shovlin says Hamilton is making sure he gets the best out of his car, he certainly isn’t joking. We certainly can not expect anything less than someone who has won almost everything that the sport has to offer.
