There have been a lot of good driver pairings on the F1 grid. While some have worked well professionally, others have done well in terms of off-track camaraderie. But there is one pair that has done both and is loved by everybody. And it is that of Max Verstappen and Daniel Ricciardo. Their banter off-track is a delight to watch and a relief from the otherwise serious press conferences. And they have given us yet another of those masterpieces to look at and enjoy.

Now that Ricciardo has made his way back into F1 with a driver’s seat, the duo is having a lot of fun in the media. It’s as if the Honey Badger never left Red Bull. They have picked up where they left off. Ahead of the Belgian GP, in the media pen, they were standing next to each other. Ricciardo was asked about his 1st performance upon return. And as he spoke about the Hungarian GP result, the Dutchman joined in the conversation and turned it into a fun one.

Ricciardo said, “I had fun. For a 13th place, I had a lot of fun. It was good to race again. Also, the race fitness, I wasn’t sure where I’d be. But, after the race, I actually felt much, much better than I thought.” By the end of his response, Verstappen started jokingly nodding his head as if he was absorbing whatever Ricciardo was saying.

Then the Dutchman said, “You went for a run right after the race? To release the energy?” As soon as he made this comment, Ricciardo started laughing, and looking at him, Verstappen giggled like a school kid making fun of his friend. He then continued that banter to say: “He’s lying. I saw him in Monaco. He was like this – “ And then Verstappen acted out how tired the Honey Badger looked, almost immovable.

This duo is probably one of the funniest and most entertaining on the current grid. But what the Australian racer couldn’t wrap his head around was the amount of constant attention he’s been getting after his return to AlphaTauri.

Daniel Ricciardo returning as RB’s reserve driver was big news. And then his getting a driver’s seat in AlphaTauri was bigger news. But after his first race in Hungary, he expected the hype around his return to die down. But on Thursday, in Belgium, the amount of attention he was getting was still at the same level. He said it felt as if he had won a World Championship.

“I thought today would’ve been a lot smaller, I thought you would’ve forgotten about me already,” said Ricciardo, as quoted by ESPN. “I definitely made a point to enjoy it all. The media day, there was a lot. I think I joked it was like I won a world championship there was so much interest. But you kind of just have to soak it all up and enjoy it.”
