Kevin Magnussen returned to F1 this season after his departure back in 2020. Upon his return, K-Mag came across some familiar faces and some new ones. Mick Schumacher was one of those fresh faces for the Dane.
The Danish driver quit Formula 1 after the 2020 season and tried his luck at IndyCar. But after a season there, Magnussen returned to F1 and joined his former team, Haas F1. He replaced Nikita Mazepin, whose contract was terminated by the American F1 team due to the ongoing tension between Ukraine and Russia.

K-Mag expressed, “Obviously, he’s very talented. He won F3, won F2 before F1. So, I feel he really deserves to be here. It’s kind of tough because of his surname. His dad is the biggest Formula 1 driver ever, and some people may think he is here just because he’s a Schumacher. But he really has what it takes to be here, and he does what is needed. But there are drivers who didn’t win F3 but got here like myself. I came second in F3 and a lot of other drivers in F1 didn’t win anything before. So yeah, he is a very talented driver, and he’s gonna do well.”
K-Mag on working with Schumacher Jr
Kevin is enjoying working alongside his new young teammate since his f1 comeback. The 29-years-old finds Schumacher honest and polite. Further, the young German’s will to learn and cooperate impresses Magnussen even more.
“He’s a super nice guy, and he’s very down to earth, so very polite. He is good with everyone. So, Everyone likes him. Immediately, he has been very open, and he’s very keen to learn. He is always asking questions,” Magnussen expressed his first impressions of Schumacher Jr.

K-mag further said, “You don’t always have that between drivers. Sometimes they are too proud or whatever. So, they don’t wanna work together and least ask questions. It’s kinda maybe some drivers are scared of showing weakness or whatever, but Mick doesn’t really care about that, he just wants to learn. I feel like in deeper things he’s feedback is good, he doesn’t make excuses, and he’s very honest with the team. If there is something like his mistakes or whatever, he’s open about that. I feel like his attitude is good.”

Haas F1 is doing great with their new driver line-up of Magnussen and Schumacher. K-Mag has helped the team to be in 7th place on the constructors’ standing. While the first two races were phenomenal, the Melbourne race was a letdown from the Haas F1. But they have the upcoming Emilia Romagna Grand Prix to redeem themselves for Australia.
