Lewis Hamilton made a pretty good starter to his 2022 season by finishing on the podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix. The Mercedes driver looked down and out until the final moments of the race as he was struggling with this car. At one point, he was over 30 seconds behind Max Verstappen and the race leader Charles Leclerc.
But after Max’s retirement and the power unit failure of Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, Hamilton inherited the place on the podium. He got praise from everyone for his drive, including Hollywood actor Zoe Saldana.

Saldana took to Instagram to congratulate Hamilton on his drive and also congratulated Ferrari for their win. ” Go @lewishamilton and also Ferrari’s too,” wrote Zoe. Hamilton replied to the actor on his Instagram story with two heart emojis.

As reported by F1.com, the Mercedes driver started the race strongly as he gained a position on the first lap of the race. But he could not hold on to his position as Perez overtook him right back for P4. After that, it was a lonely race for the 7-time world champion as he was trying to manage his tires.

He benefited from the misfortunes of both Red Bull after they retired in the final moments of the Grand Prix. Lewis was over the moon with his performance, as the German team didn’t have high hopes for a podium after the difficult qualifying in Bahrain.

“Oh, for sure, we would not have expected [to get a podium]. I woke up this morning hoping, super, super hoping, that we would have a chance to fight, that we would have a car that’s better than we think. But we did struggle in the race. But George did a great job to get us third and fourth [which] I think is pretty remarkable given the problems that we have,” said Hamilton.

Well, there is still a lot of work to be done by the German team to get back on pace. But starting the season on a positive note will surely help them in the long run. It would be interesting to see if they can improve their performance in the next race in the coming week.
