Honest Conversations Over “Beers” With Max Verstappen Brings Out the Real “Inspiration” Behind His F1 Success
Jos Verstappen has been considered a hard taskmaster for his methods that brought Max Verstappen to this glory. While his disciplining methods are questioned, his pedigree is also attributed to Max’s masterclass. However, Jos Verstappen isn’t the only one getting credit for his racing skills.
The Belgian-Dutch heritage debate about Max stems from the fact that his mother, Sophie Kumpen is from Belgium and his father is from the Netherlands. While that may have settled as the reigning double world champion race under the Dutch flag, the debate of whose genes Max has inherited has been ignited. As quoted by GP Blog, Eddie Jordan has switched his belief to state that Max Verstappen will turn out to be the greatest driver of all time, also highlighting which parent he races like.
He said, “And Max, we have had enough dinners with him, lunches, and a few beers, to realize that, I think, he sees the performance of his mother, her speed, and how she went about her business. He is naturally going to say he got his inspiration from both. She was a great talent in karting.”

Max Verstappen faced drive shaft issues in Jeddah. He saw a poor qualifying and a race where he couldn’t take P1 and stayed behind his teammate Sergio Perez. And while David Coulthard differed from Jordan’s opinion, the latter spoke his heart out.
On the Formula For Success podcast, he said, “That’s just my view because if I was running a team, that’s exactly what I would have said before they went out. You don’t have to be Einstein to work it out. Max, in my opinion, found a decent excuse, which was the driveshaft. I think Max concocted something about a driveshaft so as to make himself look good. I’m absolutely convinced that he was told, before he went out, that if Checo is leading the race, you do not have permission to pass him.”
