Michael Schumacher defined Formula 1 back in his heyday. With Ferrari, the eventual 7x champion won a stonking 5-consecutive championship from 2000 to 2004. He was a hero, not just for the Tifosi, but also for the entire F1 community. 2006 came with the news of his retirement from the sport. But it wasn’t long before Schumacher made that elusive comeback. After a glorious first stint in the game, the German Weltmeister joined forces with an old ally, Mercedes, as he helped them get to where they are today. All in all, he finally hung up his racing helmet at the end of the 2012 season.

Schumacher was always on the edge, doing things with the car that were simply just beyond the limits of the machinery. But he always made it stick. But once his time in the car was over, he seemingly ran out of luck. In 2013, he suffered a horrific skiing accident while vacationing with his family in the French Alps. He was put into an induced coma, and since then, the public and the fans, even the paddock regulars, aren’t really aware of his condition. This is down to the fact that the Schumacher family, now headed by Michael’s wife Corinna, have decided to keep it a well-guarded secret.

Even though this has been a personal choice, in the past, the family has caught a lot of flak for all the secrecy surrounding the 54-year-old. Fans want to know what is going on with their hero. But according to Nico Hulkenberg, irrespective of the concern, it isn’t really a matter of right.

While speaking to the German outlet RTL, he said, “First of all, I’m not in a position to say anything about that at all, first because I simply don’t know but I’m not at all entitled to say or express anything. You have to respect it if the family wants it this way, because that’s how they want it.”

Eddie Jordan gives a grim Michael Schumacher update

Eddie Jordan was the man who gave Michael Schumacher his big break in F1 at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. Since then, the two haven’t shared the best of relationships one would argue given the whole Jordan-Benetton-Schumacher contract saga. But as it turns out, Jordan is being kept in the loop but Schumacher’s son, Mick.

He told OLGB, “As far as I’m concerned, I was touched by it (Mick reaching out) and the reason I was touched by it was because it can’t be easy knowing that your father is not able to be part of the family, he’s there but he’s not there.”
