Alex Albon is taking a page out of the books of colleagues Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel. The introverted Thai driver is not the most outspoken person on the grid. But with his new red hair look, he caught everyone by surprise. And it was Lewis and Vettel that inspired Alex to get out and dip his hair in red.

Not directly, but Albon would not be an outspoken advocate of a charity if not for the world champion’s influence. Albon’s red hair is not a style statement but a result of a powerful message he wants to convey and spread. The red hair represents the love for Liverpool FC the kids have in an orphanage back in Wat Sakaeo orphanage, Thailand.

Coincidentally, the biggest donor and advocate of the orphanage is Jost Capito’s brother, Volker. Living in Bangkok for the past 20 years, Volker also runs a charity called Iceman Charity, specifically for the Wat Sakaeo orphanage. And Volker invited Albon for a visit to the orphanage and the Thai Williams driver did not say no.

And his visit to the charity changed his perspective on life. Albon even mentions how he can use his stature to do more. And talks about his colleagues and their involvement in world issues.

“I’m not a very extroverted person. I’m quite shy and public things aren’t my favourite things to be doing. But I do feel that there’s an element of responsibility to be able to do good,” Albon explained. “And there’s a lot of good examples. Just looking across to my colleagues, people like Lewis or Sebastian, they do amazing things for people outside of the sport.”

Alex Albon is making every point at Williams count

Albon is not limiting himself by using his hair and platform to spread the word about the orphanage. Exactly why, he and his boss Jost Capito have become the Iceman Charity’s latest patrons, as they donate every time Alex scores a point. The two will support the charity’s latest fundraiser to renovate orphanage’s barebones sports hall. They will rename the hall, Alex Albon Hall.

An important gesture from Albon and the Williams camp as they try to raise awareness. Moreover, this is something a person standing on the world stage needs to do and we’re glad Albon is doing his part.
