Lewis Hamilton suffered another defeat at the hands of Max Verstappen this weekend in Austria. The Brit was understandably disappointed not to bring home maximum points for the Brackley-based squad.

The seven-time world champion seemed to have P3 in the bag, but Lando Norris had the edge over him and claimed a podium finish. Meanwhile, Hamilton, who had to settle for fourth place, earned just twelve points.

Lewis Hamilton isn’t content with a fourth-place finish at the Austrian GP

As Hamilton saw the checkered flag at the Red Bull Ring, he quickly jumped onto the radio and apologized to the team for losing out on major points.

When his race engineer informed him he finished fourth with damage on his car, he replied, “Sorry to lose you guys those points.” After his team thanked him for his perseverance, Hamilton asked, “How many points did we lose?” The engineer replied, “So that’s a fourteen-point hit. Definitely not what we need!”

Max Verstappen extends his lead in the title race

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen grabbed another win at the Red Bull Ring and earned twenty-six points to further increase the lead in the Drivers’ Championship. The Dutchman has 182 points under his belt, meanwhile, the Mercedes driver just has 150.

The 32-point difference is on Lewis’s mind and he is hoping to bridge the gap in the upcoming races.

Meanwhile, in the Constructor’s Championship, the Silver Arrows have 242 points while their arch-rivals from Milton-Keynes have 286 points. The Brackley-based squad knows that both Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas will have to give it their all to regain the lead in the title race and restore their hopes of claiming their eighth title in F1.

The next round takes us to Silverstone for the British Grand Prix- Hamilton’s home race. At Silverstone, in a race before his home fans, the Brit will hope to have the edge over the Red Bull prodigy. A win at Silverstone will earn him the twenty-five points that can play a crucial role in catching Verstappen in the title race.
