The 2020 Hungarian Grand Prix sprung up a surprise after a moderate downpour left the track damp, throwing tire strategies in a mix; not to forget the dramatic comeback from Max Verstappen after the spin ahead of the race. Hence, the afternoon ended up delivering one of the most interesting races of the 2020 F1 season.

And now, fans are eagerly waiting for this year’s Hungarian Grand Prix, with the focus yet again residing on the rain gods. Will they open up this time around as well? Will Hungaroring witness a wet race for the first time since Imola this season?

Well, we don’t want to get your hopes high, but weather models do suggest some spots of rain over the weekend.

Weather on Friday and Saturday

Hungary will probably welcome the F1 drivers to a rather hot Friday morning for the first practice session. The temperature is expected to persist around 29ºC during FP1, which will eventually rise up to 32ºC during the afternoon over FP2.

Also, the chances of rain on both of the practice sessions are almost nil. And with not much wind expected on Friday, the drivers can look forward to a sultry Friday on the track.

However, the good news is the temperature will drop as F1 marches into the weekend, and Saturday is likely to be much cooler. FP3 will possibly witness a high of 27ºC, which will go up to a maximum of 29ºC during the qualifying session.

Despite the probability of rain lingering between 10% to 15% throughout the afternoon, the wind will pick up, possibly making the day much pleasant for the drivers.

What’s the weather for Sunday’s F1 race?

Sunday comparatively has the highest chance of witnessing the rain gods opening up. Sunday is expected to be a much cooler day with a high of 26ºC likely to persist through the main event.

What’s more, it could be a rather windy afternoon at Hungaroring, with normal winds of 16 km/h and gusts reaching up to 20 km/h.
