Ferrari had a considerably better outing in Hungary yesterday than they had in the previous week at Spielberg. However, that being said, it was a bittersweet race where one driver put in a solid display and the other one struggled to make an impression.
It was Sebastian Vettel who the better race between the two Ferrari drivers, finishing in P6. His teammate Charles Leclerc, failed to secure a points finish and came home in P11. Understandably, the team wasn’t too happy with the results. And the Scuderia team principal Mattia Binotto was honest enough to admit the facts.

Ferrari boss admits that it felt painful to be lapped by a Mercedes
According to Sky Sports, the Ferrari boss was in no mood to sugarcoat the team’s performance in Hungary. Binotto said, “An extremely disappointing Sunday, and the result is very hard to swallow. In qualifying, we had got the most out of the car as it is at the moment. But in the race that was not the case. To be lapped is very painful for us and for our fans.”
Binotto also mentioned the amount of work that the Maranello-based outfit had on their hands, to improve their performance. He said, “Now we return home after this very long trip and we have to try everything we can to improve as much as possible in every area.”
Furthermore, Binotto made it clear that working on improvement is a team job and requires everyone to contribute. He said, “Everyone will have to analyze their work and have the courage to change course if necessary because the current dynamic is unacceptable. There is no other solution to fix this situation.”
Thankfully, after a hectic triple header, the one week off will give the Italian team the time necessary, to make some changes and perhaps bounce back for the next Grand Prix, which will be held at Silverstone on the 2nd of August.
As for Sebastian Vettel, the one week break should give him a chance to analyze future options as well as refresh his mind. He has been heavily linked with a move to Aston Martin next year, as a replacement for Sergio Perez.
