During the Styrian Grand Prix last week, things started to heat up in the last few laps especially among the midfield teams. The second last lap of the race saw a fierce battle between Renault’s Daniel Ricciardo and Racing Point’s Lance Stroll.

It was the latter who emerged victorious, coming home in P7 while Ricciardo finished P8, but not before forcing Ricciardo out wide with a move that looked illegal.

However, at the time, the FIA deemed the move as a ‘racing incident.’

However, it seems like the FIA have had a change of heart. As the FIA stewards have decided that a similar move in the future would be deemed illegal.

When Ricciardo learned about the flip made by the stewards during the drivers briefing ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix, he was rather frustrated and understandably so.

Daniel Ricciardo finds a bit of solace in the fact that something similar won’t happen in the future

Speaking to Motorsport.com, Ricciardo said, “I think after the facts, they accepted that they would have done something different. But once Sunday night passes and Monday rolls over, the results are fixed.

“You can’t go back and switch positions or anything. So obviously a bit frustrated. There is a little bit of comfort knowing that that wouldn’t stick, moving forward. So, I guess we can take that.

“But I just felt at the time, it should have been more clear and more obvious. Some of the conversation was also around me going off the track. But obviously, it wasn’t my choice. I didn’t drive off there for good fun. And we discussed it.

Despite the Australian facing some injustice in Austria, it is a good thing that the FIA accepted their mistake and have made it clear that a similar move won’t be tolerated in the future.

With that bit now sorted out, Ricciardo’s focus will now be redirected to the race in Hungary.

Both, him and his teammate Esteban Ocon, didn’t have the best of qualifying sessions as they failed to get out of Q2. Ricciardo will start the race in P11 while Ocon will do the same in P14.

The Australian will be hoping to put forth an impressive performance tomorrow, after only managing 4 points from the first two races.
