Rumors linking Sebastian Vettel to Racing Point/Aston Martin show no signs of abating. The 4-times world champion who is out of contract after 2020, is being heavily linked to the Silverstone-based outfit, at the expense of Sergio Perez.

However, If this rumor turns into reality, Vettel will be heading into uncharted waters in terms of his career path. Being in midfield isn’t what Vettel is used to and as such, his former teammate Daniel Ricciardo has some words of advice to offer.

Daniel Ricciardo advises Sebastian Vettel to have patience and an open mind if he moves to Aston Martin

The Australian offered his wisdom to Vettel during Thursday’s driver’s press conference. He said, “I think for Seb, in his situation, he has had pretty much his whole career in the sport running at the front. If this is the case that he goes into a midfield team, it’s foreign territory for him. I think it requires a bit more of an open mind, certainly some patience.”

“But that is obviously up to him and where he sees the next chapter of his career. I think if he has still got the will to drive and to compete at the top level then I 100% think he should continue in the sport. If the option is in the midfield somewhere then it’s normally a longer play. He’s going to have to show commitment for, not just another twelve months, you’re talking about 24 months or 3 years.”

“As a previous teammate, I like Seb and certainly respect him in the sport. If he wishes to continue, I hope he finds a place where he’s happy.”

However, it’s unlikely that the 2021 season will be on Vettel’s mind at the moment. He’s still a Ferrari driver and has plenty of racing to do in the SF1000, so he’ll definitely have his focus dedicated to this season, and the next race at hand at the Hungaroring.

After a disappointing and in some ways unlucky start to this season, he’ll be hoping to bounce back in Hungary. Can he compete for a podium in the next race and silence his critics? We’ll soon find out.
