Lewis Hamilton has clearly established himself as one of the most successful drivers after winning almost everything that the sport had to offer in the last 16 years. The Silver Arrows and the star driver dominated the sport for almost ten years. However, Red Bull dethroned the German manufacturers this past year as they weren’t performing at their peak. At the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2021, a fire was kindled that is still there in Hamilton and Mercedes‘ hearts. When everyone anticipated Hamilton to steal the throne back from Max Verstappen last year, the charge fell short. But it seems the Briton is now prepared to reclaim the championship from the Dutchman.

The seven-time champion experienced one of his worst years in the sport in 2022, finishing sixth in the standings, without even a single race win. George Russell mirrored the achievements of Jenson Button (2011) and Nico Rosberg (2016) by defeating Hamilton as a teammate. The 38-year-old, who hasn’t claimed a victory since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix, is upbeat about the next campaign.

In a video released by Toto Wolff’s team, Hamilton addressed the love and support he gets from his fans. He said, “I wouldn’t be here without all of you. I am so grateful for your energy, your commitment, your focus, your determination. I am inspired by what I see from you. 2023 can be anything we want. So, let’s put resolutions in place for a big year.” [Translated using Google]

A warning to Hamilton’s bitter rival Max Verstappen can be inferred from the message. When Verstappen won his first championship in disputed circumstances in 2021, the rivalry was at an all-time high. Hamilton now appears to be more positive about 2023.

Lewis Hamilton has high hopes for the team’s successful comeback in 2023

The team had quite a tough time last year as the team faced multiple problems throughout the campaign. However, the squad was on a resurgence following their US Grand Prix upgrades. George Russell, the Mercedes rookie, outperformed the seven-time champion and gave the team its lone victory at the Sao Paulo track.
