“I Get Half an Opportunity to Win the Title”- Valtteri Bottas on His 1 Year Contracts With Mercedes F1

The Finnish racing driver, Valtteri Bottas, probably has the “toughest job” in the racing circuit. While Hamilton looks forward to his 7th World Championship title, Bottas is far from his maiden title. However, he believes that Mercedes is the only team that can carry him to Championship glory.

If I want to win the title, this is the team to be it,” he said.

Valtteri Bottas prefers to look at short-term ideas

The last season saw Bottas accumulate his career-best tally of points at 326. However, Hamilton was way ahead with 413 points to his name.

Bottas has been an asset to the Silver Arrows as far as earning them the top spot in the Constructors’ Championship is concerned. Yet Valtteri Bottas has been on single year contracts since 2017.

While some may find it insulting, Bottas himself seems to treat it in passing. Bottas opened up about his unusual pact with the Brackley-based outfit during an interview with Laurence Edmondson.

“Yes, if there was a long-term contract offered I would have gone for it. But the team again decided to go for that again and if that is everything they can offer then I take it,” Bottas said.

“By being with this team next year I know I will get half an opportunity to win the title and that is all that I need. Sometimes it’s good to look short-term and it can be good for long-term,” he added.

“I can really focus on racing, and then eventually next year, yes, there will come a time when I have to think about it and you will have to again figure out your future. But that is at least 10 months away, so for now I don’t need to think about it.”
