When Daniel Ricciardo joined Renault for the 2019 season, fans saw it a step backward for the Australian who was impressive at Red Bull. However, Ricciardo is only going to be a Renault driver for one more year. After this season, the Australian has agreed to join McLaren for the 2021 season. The move to the Woking-based outfit is seen as a step in the right direction for Ricciardo. We have already heard what McLaren CEO, Zak Brown had to say about the Australian, now we here what the former McLaren sporting director Gil de Ferran has to say about Ricciardo.

GloboEsporte.com interviewed Gil de Ferran. Asked to voice his thoughts on his team’s new signing, Gil said, “My opinion is very personal. He’s very fast and he’s a driver who has won and competed in Formula 1 championships. At least when I was playing that part, now I’m a little further away, it’s hard to know what Andreas Seidl (McLaren’s team principal) intends. But I know Zak Brown well, I work with him a lot, and I think that Ricciardo fits. I know his way, his personality. We never know 100%, but I think daniel will fit well in the team.”

Ricciardo does indeed seem like a good fit for the Woking-based outfit. He brings in loads of experience that can not only help the team but even his fellow driver Lando Norris. Personality-wise it would seem like Lando and Daniel would hit it off together as well. Not to mention that he’s a pretty damn good driver who has won 7 Grand Prix races and has finished on the podium 29 times.

However, before McLaren fans get too overwhelmed thinking about the bromance between Lando and Daniel, we mustn’t forget that we’ll only get to see this duo a season later. For now, Daniel still has his commitment with Renault to honor. He has indicated that he wants to leave the French team on a high. As for McLaren, they’ll be hoping to continue from where they left off last season.
