Lewis Hamilton‘s partnership with his long-time physiotherapist and assistant Angela Cullen was probably as strong as Mercedes’ partnership with the Constructors’ Crown in the turbo-hybrid era. And it lasted almost as long too. A seven-year collaboration between the Briton and the New Zealander—that started in 2016—ended when Hamilton took to Instagram to announce the split before the Saudi Arabian GP.

In the post, Hamilton mentioned that Cullen helped him become a stronger athlete and that she “pushed me to be the best version of myself.” Needless to say, the split was emotional for both of them. Cullen, too, posted a touching message on Instagram, thanking Hamilton and the Mercedes team for their support and announcing that she was “off to my new adventure.”

In a recent interview with L’Equipe, the seven-time World Champion opened up about his split with Cullen. He said, “I miss her every day.” He told Motorsport.com how he believes they’ll always be in each other’s lives. She joined him at the start of one of his most challenging seasons in F1, at the end of which his teammate—who he fought for the Championship—and World Champion, Nico Rosberg, retired. But Hamilton continued his bid for his fourth championship. He now has seven titles and is in his 17th season. The 38-year-old credits his longevity in the sport to his training and diet, both of which Cullen helped him with.

Even though their partnership has ended, they have stayed in touch. Both of them being thrill-seekers, Hamilton expressed how he’s “always looking forward to the next fun adventure, whether it be skydiving, whether it be climbing Mount Everest together at some stage.” They have both played a significant role in each other’s lives, but Hamilton stresses that Cullen is one of the greatest things to have happened to him. “She’s the single hardest-working woman that I get to be around.”

Who is Lewis Hamilton’s new physiotherapist?

The Briton has had to make a few changes to his team following the departure of Angela Cullen. Although his fundamental team has remained the same, there have just been a few additions in the training department.

He also talked about Steve-O, one of his team members who’s been with him throughout his career since his first race with McLaren. When he shifted to Mercedes, Steve-O came with him as his gearbox engineer. Now, he helps Hamilton with his physical fitness.

When asked if he had to change his routine after Cullen left, he explained that he had to make a few adjustments, but his team has immensely helped and supported him over the past few months.

During the Saudi Arabian GP, Nico Rosberg noticed that Hamilton looked slightly out of form. Could this have been because of Cullen’s departure? Either way, given his second-place finish at the Spanish GP, he seems like he’s back in form. And with talks about his new contract with Mercedes almost resolved, he looks to extend his glorious career further.
