George Russell is ready to jump from Williams to Mercedes for the 2022 season. Although he has announced the decision, it looks like a certainty that he will replace Valtteri Bottas in the German team to partner Lewis Hamilton for the next season.

But Hamilton has mentioned that he is not worried about the challenge that Russell will pose in 2022. He even acknowledged that he sees a bit of himself in the young drivers such as George Russell and Lando Norris.

As reported by planetf1, the Mercedes driver mentioned he is looking forward to working with Russell if he joins the German team. He also stated that he hopes Russell can take the team forward.

“You have heard me talk about Lando Norris, and it is encouraging. I see a lot of myself in the younger generation. They’re fierce. The sport is relying on them.

There will be things George and I can learn from one another. It is important that respect is always there and communication is at the core of that. We have got amazing morale at the team.” said Hamilton.

The Mercedes driver mentions he is not afraid of George Russell

Although the 7-time world champion praised the young Brit, he also mentioned that he is not afraid of him. He stated he has raced against everyone and will continue to do so.

But his title rival Max Verstappen believes Russell could prove difficult for the Mercedes driver, “If he joins, for sure he will make it very difficult for Lewis,”

It is reported that Mercedes will announce George Russell as their driver at the Monza next week.
