“I Sent Him [Christian Horner] a Message”: Amid F1 Comeback Rumors, Sebastian Vettel Reveals His Correspondence With Controversial Red Bull Boss

In recent weeks, Sebastian Vettel has been linked with potentially replacing Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. While those rumors continue to move around the paddock, speculations have risen about the German driver being interested in Mercedes over Red Bull. Moreover, the Milton Keynes outfit hasn’t finalized Sergio Perez’s contract renewal. This could provide a good platform for Vettel to jump back where he left off.

When he won 4 world championships with Red Bull under Christian Horner’s leadership (2010-2013), Horner was an up-and-coming Team Principal. Now, the German is vying for more answers from the Red Bull CEO. On two separate occasions, Vettel has demanded “more transparency” on this case so that a fair conclusion can be drawn.

Addressing his former boss’ case once again, Vettel told BBC that he “doesn’t know what did happen and didn’t happen” and “you never know what source to trust”. Though he did confirm texting Horner, it wasn’t regarding the controversy.

It was entirely pertaining to Red Bull’s success in the first 2 race weekends of 2024. He said: “There were two races at the beginning of the season and they did great so I sent him [Horner] a message and congratulated [him], like other people in the team as well. From a sporting point of view, the team is doing amazing.”

The German driver looks still very interested in the happenings at the pinnacle of motorsport. Why shouldn’t he be? He’s only 36 years old, the driver market is wide open, and vacant seats are aplenty. To top it all, even the drivers seem to be excited to have him back.

Lewis Hamilton roots for Sebastian Vettel’s F1 Comeback

In the Thursday morning press conference in Japan, George Russell approved of having Vettel as his potential teammate at Mercedes in 2025. Moreover, the man he would be replacing, Lewis Hamilton, too seems excited to have his German friend back on the grid.

“I would love for Seb to come back and I think it would be an amazing option for the team,” the seven-time champion said, as quoted by ESPN. “German driver, multi-world championship winning driver, and someone who has amazing values who would continue to take the team forward. I’d love it if he came back.”
