People say that history repeats itself. For McLaren it sure did. Last time an alcohol-based brand sponsored McLaren we got the infamous “GP2 Engine” Mclaren. As McLaren collaborates with another alcohol partner to celebrate 60 years of Mclaren and the legacy of Bruce Mclaren, we’ve got another the MCL60, another challenger to win the Formula 2 championship. As McLaren announced the collab, the Papaya army put fuel to the fire and roasted Zak Brown and Co. What did the fans actually say though?

McLaren has been signing sponsorship deals at the pace of Red Bull while being far away from their pace in reality. The MCL60 is possibly the slowest car on the grid and a nightmare to drive for drivers. Had it not been for the demolition derby at Albert Park, McLaren would still be on zero points. Lando Norris has already explained how he’s not able to push the car to his liking as it just gives away. Nevertheless, McLaren has possibly signed a sponsor that will make it easier for Papaya Army to watch the slow MCL60.

McLaren in collaboration with Jack Daniels has released a special limited edition McLaren branded bottle of Whisky as McLaren celebrates 60 years in F1. This isn’t the only time McLaren has collaborated with an alcohol-related sponsor. The British team has previously collaborated with Johnnie Walker and also released a special edition whisky with them. The McLaren CEO is ecstatic about the Whisky launch as he looks forward to celebrating the 60-year anniversary.

According to McLaren.com, Zak Brown said, “We are thrilled to welcome Jack Daniel’s to the McLaren F1 Team. Together we will look to reach new audiences as well as hosting a variety of events together. 2023 is an important year for McLaren as we commemorate our 60th birthday, and we are excited to celebrate with an iconic brand like Jack Daniel’s by our side.”

McLaren’s partnership with Jack Daniels aggravated some fans as they suggested that the team should be working on the car. But most of the Papaya arm was happy with the collaboration. Not for the team but for themselves as it would make watching the Grand Prix a lot easier as McLaren fails to get in the Top 10. Let’s see how the fans reacted.

Fans react to McLaren X Jack Daniels limited edition whisky announcement

Fans took to Twitter to express themselves over the collaboration and the limited edition whisky. In light of McLaren’s slow pace, many suggested that they are definitely going to need this Whisky bottle, maybe 1, maybe 2, until it makes the sorrow of slow McLaren go away. While others criticized how McLaren is so quick at signing sponsors yet not able to improve the car with all that sponsorship money. Let’s see how the fans reacted:

Some draw a comparison between the two brands and suggested that both are average at what they do. One person even called McLaren as the Tottenham Hotspurs of F1. Some prompted McLaren that they would rather celebrate a race win in place of the whisky which celebrates 60 years of the team.
