It was a rather gloomy Friday for the entire field of music, as American rapper Earl Simmons, aka DMX, succumbed to a heart attack at the age of 50. And as the news reached the public ears, a handful of celebrities, including Lewis Hamilton paid tribute to the world-famous rapper.

The 7-time world champion took to Twitter to reveal the kind of impact DMX made to his “difficult” childhood years.

I’m devastated to wake up to the death of DMX. I grew up listening to him, his words and stories got me through some difficult times as a kid and I’m so grateful for his wisdom and light. Gone too soon but I hope on to a more peaceful place.

“Rest in peace DMX,” Hamilton wrote on his Twitter handle.

Simmons suffered a heart attack on April 2 and was rushed to the hospital. Unfortunately, he remained unresponsive through a hard one-week battle amid his deteriorating health condition.

On April 9, Simmons’ family announced that he had passed away after spending over a week on life-support.

We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50-years-old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” the statement read.

It is a known fact that Hamilton has been into music apart from leading an astonishing career in Formula 1. But quite a lot may not be aware of the fact that the seven-time world champion is a rapper and also possesses his own stage name.

Popstar, Christina Aguilera, released an album called Liberation in June 2018. However, there was a mysterious name that featured in one of her songs from the album – Pipe. While her fans couldn’t recognize the mystery man, under the pseudonym, XNDA, Formula 1 fans managed to identify the voice.

A year has gone by now, and Hamilton is finally reaching the business end of his racing career.

So, with such a strong base in music, will the Briton feature himself in more songs under the stage name, XNDA, following his F1 retirement? Only time will tell.
