Winning a championship or even a race in Formula 1 requires the joint efforts of hundreds of people. And yes, it’s true that usually, the key faces take away all the spotlight, but they’re also dependent and supported by team members who play a critical role in the overall success of the team. In Red Bull’s case, one such member in 2021 was Alex Albon.
Team principal Christian Horner recently revealed in a podcast the key role Albon played in their successful campaign,
Horner referred to Albon as the ‘unsung hero’ of the season. He said, “The hours he’s put in behind the simulator, in the dark simulator room, in the bowels of the factory late on in the Friday evening, supporting the race driver, assisting the race drivers.”

“He’s done an unbelievable job.”
Horner also mentioned the other role the Thai driver played for the team from Milton Keynes.
“He’s also acted as a driver coach in the second half with Yuki Tsunoda who has made real progress.”

Horner and Red Bull will root for Alex Albon next season
Earlier this season it was announced that Albon will be driving for Williams Racing in 2022. This would be Albon’s first season as a full-time driver since he was replaced by Red Bull.
Christian Horner expressed the bittersweet feelings on Albon’s final departure, after his one season with them on the sidelines. “We all were very sad to see Alex go, but we’re delighted he’s got a seat in Formula 1 next year with the Williams team,” Horner said.
“We’ll be certainly wishing him all the best and rooting for him next season.”
