With the popularity of Formula 1 skyrocketing, the American audience has especially taken to the sport. This is partly due to American ownership and also thanks to the Netflix show Drive to Survive. However, for the select group of American fans, the transition was easy. America already hosts its multiple racing competitions and the closest to F1 is IndyCar. There is a host of fans who follow the IndyCar series religiously. As it turns out, F1’s newest recruit, Logan Sargeant, is among those which he showcased by celebrating Kyle Kirkwood.

The American audience got their wish when Williams promoted their young driver, Sargeant, to the first team. The American fans were longing for a driver representing the country in F1 and Sargeant was their beacon of hope. Additionally, because of Sargeant’s roots, a lot of European F1 fans will become familiar with the American way.

Sargeant bridged that gap with his recent Instagram story when he shared his appreciation for Kirkwood. The F1 rookie shared IndyCar’s post on his story with the caption, “So happy for you brother” and tagged Kirkwood. Why you might ask?

One Florida man to another, Kirkwood, received words of affirmation from Sargeant for securing his first NTT series win. Kirkwood won his first IndyCar race on the street track of the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach, driving the No.27 for Andretti Autosport.

However, that isn’t enough, and now the American must keep pushing and keep delivering for his massive fanbase. Mario Andretti, the former world champion, is the last American to win an F1 race. He wants to see that change soon.

Speaking to the Times, Andretti said, “As Formula One becomes more and more prominent in these United States, we’d love to have the US national anthem being played on the top step of a Formula One race.”
