Logan Hunter Sargeant is the newest addition to Formula 1 grid. The American driver has recently earned his place in the Williams F1 team after a fair stint in F2 in 2022. However, who is Logan Sargeant? What’s his background and is he a pay driver?

Sargeant made his F1 practice debut in the 2022 United States Grand Prix. As Williams decided to part ways with Canadian driver Nicholas Latifi, it opened the seat for the Florida born to the first full-time American driver in the sport since Scott Speed in 2007.

Williams decided to replace Latifi with Sargeant as the Canadian failed to impress during his three-year stint. Over the course of three seasons, Latifi has 61 race starts and 9 points altogether. Moreover, as per stats, he doesn’t look on par with his 2022 teammate Alex Albon.

The announcement came after a series of decent performances in F2. He has won multiple championships in his karting days. Moreover, he joined Williams Driver Academy in 2021.

When asked when he found out he was in contention for the Williams seat, the American driver conveyed, “To be honest, I was kind of kept out of the loop on that. I think that was more done between my managers and Williams.”

Sargeant further stated on this, “I wasn’t made aware of that until after Monza. That was when it pretty much became concrete as long as I achieved my Super Licence, and I think they decided to tell me early in order to prep as best as I could and be as ready as I could for the last round.”

Logan Sargeant’s background

Logan Sargeant was born in the coastal City of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States. This means the Miami Grand Prix next year will be his home race. He was born on December 31, 2000, and is 21 years old at the time of writing this article.

The newest Williams recruit has an older brother named Dalton Sargeant, who is also a motorsport driver. Dalton Sargeant is a former driver in the American professional stock car racing competition, NASCAR. The 24-year-old raced in NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2015, 2017, and 2018.

The 21-year-old is also a big-time Jeff Gordon fan. All in all, racing has been in his blood for a long time.

Interestingly, Logan Sargeant’s uncle named Harry Sargeant III is a billionaire from Florida. He has a diversified energy and shipping business. As per reports, he was a former officer and fighter pilot in the United States Marine Corps and operates a multi-billion dollar conglomerate business.

Sargeant Trading, the company built by the upcoming Williams driver’s grandfather, has the largest fleet of Asphalt barges and tankers in the world. Logan Sargeant’s family has a business that is worth billions and deals with aviation, oil trading and refinery, alternative fuels, and oil and asphalt shipping.

Hence, it is believed that Logan Sargeant is from a wealthy background and his family is worth billions given the vast business ventures they have.

Logan Sargeant’s net worth and possible factor for his F1 inclusion

According to reports, Logan Sargeant’s net worth is estimated at around $1.5 million. Regarding his assets, endorsements, and salary, not much information is available as of now.

Formula 1 has gained massive popularity in America in the last few years. Thanks to Netflix’s Drive to Survive, the pinnacle of motorsports gained immense traction there.

However, the sport hasn’t had any drivers from America in recent times. With Sargeant’s inclusion, it is expected that Formula 1 as well as Williams’ popularity, is set to explode next year. With three races on the calendar (Miami, Austin and Las Vegas), one team (Haas), and one driver, the United States of America is surely the next big hotspot for Formula 1.

In a report published by The Race, the 21-year-old driver said about his nationality, “I like to think it’s just a happy coincidence. I’ve put in the hard work over the past however many years, made the commitment to move to Europe when I was young to make this dream a reality.”

“I feel like I’ve had a very good junior formula career. And I’m just looking forward to closing that chapter and moving onto the next,” the Florida-born driver further asserted.

On an endnote, it’s uncertain if the British F1 team offered Logan Sargeant their F1 seat for his nationality, his family background, or for creating a fan base for themselves in the United States. Nevertheless, having the talented F2 driver in the team will surely give the Grove-based a new outlook in 2023.
