Christian Horner, after his appointment in 2005, became the youngest-ever team principal in the sport. After the conclusion of the 2022 season, he is now the longest-serving team principal as well. Does Christian Horner have a stake in Red Bull Racing?

Being the leading man of one of the most successful Formula 1 team in history definitely brings prosperity. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the British team principal has amassed a net worth of a whopping $50 million by 2022.

Horner makes up most of his wealth through his very lucrative deal as the team principal of Red Bull. Horner makes up to $10 million each year under his current contract with the team. Apart from the salary, the Brit is not part of any sponsorship deals, he only cracks them for the team.

However, apart from his hefty salary, what else does Horner going on for him? In terms of the Red Bull conglomerate? Nothing! Red Bull is still owned by two entities and/or their offspring.

In 1987, Chaleo Yoovidhya and Dietrich Mateschitz created the Red Bull brand together. According to Crash.net, Chaleo Yoovidhya had the majority stake in Red Bull, i.e. 51% and Mateschitz had the remaining 49%. After Chaleo Yoovidhya’s death in 2012, his son Chalerm inherited 51% worth $24.7 billion. Mateschitz left the world recently, which the entire F1 world mourned, leaving his 49% stake to his son Mark who is 29 years old.

Red Bull GmbH is a privately owned company and despite being the longest-serving and loyal member of the team, Horner does not get a bite of the cheery. Not like his Mercedes rival does.

How Toto Wolff became a part owner of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team

We all have come to know and love Toto Wolff as the team principal of Mercedes. However, Wolff’s role at Mercedes does not end as the team principal. The Austrian is also the CEO of the Mercedes F1 Team. He is the managing partner of the team alongside wider responsibilities as Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. Now, Wolff is approximately worth $580 million. How did he amass such a huge sum? Let’s find out!

Wolff called it quits on his racing career early on and focused on the business part of it. After studying at the Vienna University of Economics and Business, Toto founded his own investment company. In 1998, he founded Marchfifteen and followed that with Marchsixteen in 2004.

His one investment also lead to the IPO of HWA AG, a company responsible for developing and racing Mercedes-Benz cars. In 2009, Wolff invested in the Williams F1 team. By 2012, the Austrian became the Executive Director of the team. Almost a year later, the Daimler AG Board appointed Wolff as the Managing Partner of the Mercedes F1 Team.

During his appointment, Wolff cracked the deal to acquire a 30% stake in the Mercedes F1 team, alongside Niki Lauda. At the same time, Wolff also donned the role of Head of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport overseeing all motorsport programs which include F1 and Formula E today.

At the end of the 2020 F1 season, the company announced Wolff increased the stake in the company by 3%. Now, Wolff, along with INEOS and Daimler AG, is a one-third equal shareholder in the team. Even with the increased stake and new structure, Wolff retained his role in the team and continues to lead the F1 project.

Christian Horner and Toto Wolff are on the same track most weekends. However, Toto Wolff has much more influence and a bigger role in his team. Wolff is a part-owner of Mercedes whereas Horner is working for a large corporation i.e. Red Bull.

Despite their differences, the two are incredibly driven and successful men fighting tooth and nail for their respective teams.
