One man caught in the middle of this saga was Nicholas Latifi. The Canadian driver was nowhere in the limelight until his crash changed the whole title fight.

Nicholas Latifi: Life and Career
Latifi was born in Montreal, Canada on June 29, 1995. His father, Michael Latifi is a businessman, philanthropist, and entrepreneur, currently serving as Chairman and CEO of Sofina foods inc., also a title sponsor for the Williams F1 team. He is another successful Canadian businessman apart from Lawrence Stroll who has flushed in heavy bucks into the sport; Latifi senior invested $260 million in Mclaren in 2018 and holds a minor stake in the Woking-based outfit.
Latifi finished second to Nick de Vries in the FIA F2 championship 2019, bagging 4 wins. He was a reserve driver for Renault before moving to Williams as a full-timer. His debut race was the 2020 Austrian GP, where he finished 11th after 9 cars retired. He has entered 39 races, with the best finish of P7.

Latifi senior also owns an exquisite Yacht and Car collection. Being a Ferrari enthusiast, he has bought an F2004 of the great Michael Schumacher and an F2007 that was driven by Kimi Raikkonen.
