The Saudi Arabian Grand Prix was a tense, dramatic and eventful affair for Toto Wolff and his team. Yes, they came out on top in the end, but tensions ran high for most of the weekend. Yet, the Mercedes boss didn’t refrain from some banter during it. This is something Williams’ driver, George Russell, revealed after the race.

In a post-race interview, Wolff asks Russell, “Did you get my message on the visor?”

And the Briton explains that his future boss wrote him a ‘nice little message’, that Wolff suggests was ‘actually a compliment’, before FP2. However, what Wolff wrote is something that Russell doesn’t intend to disclose. You’ll see why.

The Williams driver narrated, “And then, Toto took over this week on helmet duty, and wrote me a lovely little message.”

Toto Wolff said that he saw the helmet and thought about leaving his future driver a message. As for the message, the future Mercedes driver finally hinted at what it actually was. Russell said, “It began with F, had a K in it and-

“-it ended with R,” Wolff completed.

Russell revealed, “Toto said to me, ‘When have I ever let you down? Ever since you joined Mercedes [as an academy driver in 2017] you have always performed and I have never let you down. Focus on performing and leave the rest to me.’”

“I felt like I had done enough up until that point to justify getting the job.”

Russell explained he didn’t feel the need to stand on the doorstep of his future boss and ask if his much-rumored move to Mercedes will take place.
