After 8 years of pure dominance in F1, Mercedes finds itself in uncharted waters in the 2022 season. The team failed to set the benchmark this year with the W13 and has fallen behind in the pecking order. Thus, so far this season we have not heard the UK national anthem at the podium ceremony which became a habit for the F1 fans, courtesy of Lewis Hamilton.

The new rules and regulations in the 2022 season changed the way the aerodynamics of the F1 cars work. Henceforth, we witnessed the ‘porpoising issue’ being the thorn in the side of the Brit. The initial races pointed towards 2022, being a hard pill to swallow, but the driver inked with ‘Still I Rise’ showed why he is one of the best to ever race in the premier racing league.
Azerbaijan GP was arguably the worst porpoising experience for the Briton, yet he finished P4. He carried this strong momentum into the next race at Montreal, where he finished on the podium for the first time since Bahrain GP. As a result, it was a special one for him and he shared his feelings in an interview with his former teammate, Heikki Kovalainen.
Heikki Kovalainen on Lewis Hamilton:
”I have thought about you a lot and all your achievement. And What a fine young man you have become.”
Lewis: ” Ah thank you. That is probably one of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten. I’m still young? ”
Heikki: ”Absolutely”

“We’re now getting, I remember me and, like Montreal, getting fourth place qualifying. It was quite emotional, it was quite emotional, it was like wow, this, I remember how great it felt because I really struggled with the car and then getting our first podium, you know. Not our first podium but our next, our second podium of the year, and then a second, last week.”

“I mean I went home feeling like we really achieved something great and that’s a great feeling,” Hamilton commented.
Lewis Hamilton: The consistency benchmark
From the get-go, the seven-time world champion focused on how he can avenge the team from the misery that it found itself in. In a similar situation, many drivers can blame the team and call it a day. However, not the loyal Mercedes ace who stuck with them through adversity and helped them push flat out to find the missing lap time.
That’s P2 and back to back double podiums for @MercedesAMGF1 !! We're going into the summer break much stronger than we were at the start of the season. We are moving FORWARD and that win is getting CLOSER! Thank you to all the fans, hope you enjoyed that one 💥💥 pic.twitter.com/PwIdw5c8sr

In the present season, every team is in a battle for developing its modern car with significant upgrades. The Brit duo, George Russell and Hamilton refused to fight for anything but the race wins. They worked together as a unit and their hard work is now paying off with podium finishes in the recent races.
Since Canada GP, the 37-year-old has stood on the podium in each race and grabbed big points for the team. Remarkably, at Budapest, he broke the world record for most laps led on the same venue in motor sport.
