Ferrari have struggled immensely over the course of this year’s Formula 1 season. The issue is mainly due to the weak engine that the Italian constructors possess.
Former Formula 1 driver Ralf Schumacher opens up about his opinion on the Ferrari conundrum and gives us some insight into the miserable state of the Maranello-based outfit.
To go out and win a Grand Prix requires months of planning and proper execution. However, when it fails miserably, it takes a lot of effort to start from scratch and get back on the right track.

From the start of the season, the Italian marquee struggled to keep the pace of the race. They hit a new low during the Belgian Grand Prix, finishing 13th and 14th in the main race. With the races being held in close proximity, Ferrari turning the tables on their lowly results seems like a tall ask.
“The engine is the core problem. He is the weakest in the whole of Formula 1. That means they have a huge deficit. Above all, one thing is worrying: if you take a direction in Formula 1, set a development guideline, which then turns out to be fatally wrong, then you have a massive problem. Getting away from there is extremely difficult. Especially when the races are so close,” Ralf declared.
Technically, the heart of the car would require more time and dedication. Italian Grand Prix certainly won’t be the occasion where the scarlet side emerges out of the ashes like a phoenix.

“I could imagine that the company at home is already completely rethinking the concept. Maybe something big will change. But unfortunately, that won’t be seen on the track for three to four weeks at the earliest.”
Time is of the essence for Ferrari
With only 7 points separating 5th place Ferrari and 3rd place McLaren, they have the opportunity to climb up and acquire the 3rd position. However, if their last race at Spa was any indication, the Prancing Stallion may be in for a rude awakening.
