“It’s My Choice” – Lewis Hamilton Recalls the Time He Went Against His Father’s Advice

Lewis Hamilton is surely a lucky charm for Mercedes. Since his arrival in 2013, the German has been unstoppable. Many have asked him what motivated him to decide on that, a decision that would change F1 forever.

Lewis may have several fans around him, but he did not have many when he was at the crossroads of his life. Therefore, when he jumped ship from McLaren to Mercedes in 2013, many advised him otherwise.

Lewis usually listens to his dad when he can’t decide on much.

When his dad told him to stay back, what motivated him to take that leap of faith? Does he remember that time well? You bet he does, and Ziggo sports got it back to us.

“I’m very proud today naturally of the decision I took.

“I think the important lessons are to take from here is in life we often need to sometime seek approval from people. Sometimes we don’t know what the answers are.

“So we try to get it from the people that are close to us who also often only have an opinion, don’t know what the answers are.” spoke the philosopher within Hamilton.

“I was told by everyone around me to stay put to stay at Mclaren. Even my dad told me to stay.

“What I had to do at the time was to really dig deep inside and figure out for myself what I wanted to do. It’s my choice. And I think it is really important to let people be themselves to do what suits you. Be and do what you want to do, not what people expect you to do.” Hamilton added.

Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes clicked since the beginning

Once in Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton wanted no-nonsense. He knew that he had took a huge decision and how he reacts to it is what shapes his future. He dived in straight away and gave it his all. His recollection is so lively, it feels as if it were yesterday.

“I’m gonna try to take everything I’ve learnt all these years and try and apply it to the team [Mercedes].

“So I came to the factory and changed a ton of things in the car. There was a huge amount of respect between us because of the career I had already had. The guys were so excited that we just worked and bonded and we made massive strides already in the beginning.” Lewis recollected.

The Mercedes members all have one motto – no slack. This has been their mantra, their only key to success. No shortcuts, no rest, and no-nonsense. The team struggles and comes out every weekend as they did for the past seven years. Well, hard work always gets paid.

“We won our championship running the second year. But we continued to face every single year the same as the first year I came here in 2013.

“We don’t slack in terms of we are gonna chill our lives. We have that same difficult conversation pushing each other elevating each other. Its been a dream.” concluded Lewis.

Lewis Hamilton may be uncertain about his future at Mercedes. However, he will never forget the seven years he has spent with then. He would have definitely reached where he is today, but he did have to trust himself and that’s all that matters.
