Oscar Piastri is enjoying a stellar debut season in Formula 1 with McLaren. But what people fail to realize is the fact that he’s up against a bonafide World Champion of the future in the shape of Lando Norris. What’s more? The Australian has pretty much been at par, and sometimes better, than his British counterpart! Naturally, you’d expect some tension to be brewing within the confines of Woking. Rest assured though, you may actually be smelling a bromance!

The duo of Piastri and Norris has quickly become a fan-favorite of the Papaya army. And while Norris may only just be 23 years old, he’s considered a willy veteran of the sport as compared to his baby-faced teammate, Piastri. And as things turn out, the dynamic between the two, though goofy, is reminiscent of this exact proportion.

Oscar Piastri’s antics make Lando Norris proud

One big aspect of marketing for F1 teams is their social media accounts. And little games and challenges are the bread and butter for them. But what happens when two charismatic drivers with solid chemistry become your protagonists? You hit social media gold!

In a recently uploaded video on McLaren’s YouTube channel, the duo can be seen playing ‘British Summer Games’. And as the video came to an end, Piastri made an innocent plea in line with the team’s PR goals. He said, “Hope you enjoyed. If you haven’t already; like and subscribe! It’s my first time I’ve ever said that. I feel like a YouTuber now!”

This prompted Norris to proudly chip in and say, “He’s learning, he’s learning!”

While Norris and Piastri may be getting along well, is the Australian really in the mood to forge a bromance?

Piastri has no friends

Excelling in Formula 1 is no joke. And while the young drivers are the kind who’d get up to having fun, and at the end of the day, F1 racing is serious business. And Piastri realizes this. Hence, in his own words, he’s not interested in making friends while he races at the pinnacle of motorsport.

Back in 2022, before his F1 debut and dalliance with Lando Norris, Piastri was quizzed about his relationship with Daniel Ricciardo by ESPN. And while the history between them is sour, there is yet another reason why he chose to keep his distance.

He was quoted as saying, “Of course, I want to be friends and have a good relationship with him, but this is motorsport. We’re from the same country, but everyone here in F1 is trying to beat each other. That’s the beauty of motorsport, you’re all friends off the track, or most of us are friends off the track, but once the helmet goes on there’s the age-old saying, you’ve got no friends.”
