“It’s Simply the Right Thing to Do”- Luca Corberi Quits Motorsport After Ugly Karting Incident

Ever since the viral video made its way into social media, Luca Corberi has been trending in the entire Motorsports community over the last few days. Corberi is also officially under investigation by the FIA following his reckless behavior on and off the track as well. Citing the seriousness of this issue, an upset Corberi vowed to never race again in his career.

Corberi, after his reckless actions during the World Karting Championship race in Italy, posted an apologetic statement on social media.
“I’d like to apologize to the motorsport community for what I’ve done. There are no excuses to explain why I’ve done such a disgraceful act,” he said. “This has been something I’ve never done in my 15 years of career, I really hope it won’t be seen by anybody else in the future.

“After the race, once I’ve been called by the sporting judges, I’ve asked them to take my license away because I was fully conscious about my irreparable mistakes.
“But as they showed me, they don’t have the power for doing it. It’s written in the international rules. So please, don’t be against them. They were just doing their work in the best way they could.”
“For this reason, I’ve decided to don’t take part to any other motorsport competition for the rest of my life. That’s not a self-justice, it’s simply the right thing to do,” the statement read.
His actions could potentially cause him to suffer a life-time ban from racing, as the FIA have already started the investigation. Amid such heat, Corberi has chosen to retire from racing altogether.

Felipe Massa, President of FIA’s Karting Commission, also guaranteed that strict action will be taken against the driver. Apart from that, former F1 driver, Jenson Button, and McLaren team’s boss, Zak Brown, too expressed their opinions on the incident by demanding a lifetime ban from racing for Corberi.
