Alfa Romeo’s Antonio Giovinazzi knows a thing or two about Ferrari and its famed academy. Coming through the ranks, he was also one of the names tipped to replace Sebastian Vettel for the 2021 season.
But eventually, the ‘Prancing Horse’ elected to pick McLaren’s Carlos Sainz to partner Charles Leclerc. Giovinazzi, meanwhile, will dedicate his focus on performing for Alfa Romeo in the upcoming campaign.

Speaking in an interview, Giovinazzi stated, “It’s the dream [to drive for Ferrari] but of course I know that Carlos will be there for a few years, and as well Charles.”

“You never know what will happen so for now I’m focused on doing well here at Alfa Romeo. I know that I will be driving for Alfa Romeo next season and my target now is to do well with them, and then we will see what will be happening in 2022.”
The likes of Robert Shwartzman and Callum Ilott are also good contenders from the F2 division to challenge for a potential Ferrari seat. But for the time being, the Italian driver just wants to continue doing a good job for his current team.

He continued, “Im part of that family as well and it’s great to feel the support from Ferrari. Now I’m racing for Alfa Romeo and I want to do the best job here so far. I’m sure that I’m doing a good job here and then we will see what the future will bring.”
Giovinazzi finished the 2020 season with a total of 4 F1 championship points
The 27-year-old showed his capability with limited resources by leading the team to three points finishes. Following a P9 in Austria, he later picked up points at the Nurburgring as well as Imola.

With an experienced teammate in Kimi Raikkonen alongside him, the Italian has certainly improved since his debut in 2017. Essentially, he extracted maximum potential from an Alfa Romeo car that did not look impressive in qualifying or the races.
Therefore, Ferrari could keep him in consideration, should an opportunity come up. For now, though, Giovinazzi will want to repay the faith invested in him, and notch similarly good results for the team in 2021.
