We often see Carlos Sainz and Lando Norris enjoying each other’s company as McLaren teammates. Sainz joined McLaren in 2019 after moving over from Renault. He has stated that Norris and he keep pushing each other to get better every weekend.

Carlos Sainz is leaving McLaren at the end of the season and joining Ferrari next year. Meanwhile, the Spaniard admitted that he has learned a lot from his teammate at McLaren.

Sainz said, “He’s [Lando Norris] a very good driver. Every time I have a chance to look at his data, there’s always things to learn and things to try myself and to improve as a driver.”

“He always has something in some corner that I’m not doing, and I have to try and do it. And that makes me a better driver. I think I’ve been lucky you know, to have him as a team-mate, because it’s made me progress also,” he further added.

Sainz believes that in the process of pushing each other to improve, they have also motivated their team. He states that it has also contributed to the rate of progress that McLaren has made this season.

The team is currently at P4 with 149 points on the driver championships, and are only five points behind Racing Point at P3. However, they are also being haunted by Renault and Ferrari at 136 and 130 points, respectively. At the moment, the McLaren teammates are separated by just a single point in the drivers’ standings.

However, Sainz clarified, “The team comes first and I can assure you now that whenever we are on track, we will be thinking more about the P3 of the team than our P7 [in the drivers’ standings]. That P3 is worth quite a bit more than our P7 for each other.”

Ferrari announced at the beginning of the season that Carlos Sainz will join them next season. At that point, it must have been exciting for the Spaniard. However, Ferrari’s performance has deteriorated over the season. It will be interesting to see how Sainz deals with Ferrari’s current struggles next season.
