The AlphaTauri seat carnival has been going on ever since Helmut Marko gave Nyck De Vries the red card. Even the parent team Red Bull got involved as Sergio Perez’s form dropped. Nonetheless, AlphaTauri has now come out to confirm their lineup for the 2024 season. Both Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda will stay at the Red Bull sister team. However, what about Liam Lawson? He’s been performing brilliantly in the absence of Ricciardo. Can he take Logan Sargeant’s seat which is the only one available for 2024?

Liam Lawson has been nothing short of excellent in the AlphaTauri. Ever since Daniel Ricciardo suffered the fractures following the crash in Zandvoort, Lawson has stepped up to the occasion and performed like a seasoned driver. Logan Sargeant on the other hand hasn’t been as impressive as he was expected to be. While Sargeant’s teammate Albon has arguably been one of the best drivers on the grid this year, the American remains the only full-time driver who has no points to show for his talent.

This begs to ask the question, will Liam Lawson make a move to Williams? Williams Team Principal James Vowles expressed how he’s been impressed with Liam Lawson’s performance so far. As Vowles talked about Lawson & Sargeant being teammates in F2 and explained how comparison data is available from back then, Vowles told Sky, “I think what we don’t have at the moment, with different cars, different situations at the moment, is knowing how they compare between a Williams and an AlphaTauri at this stage.”

As Vowles expressed the desire for comparison based on F1 and teams, Christian Horner also praised the Red Bull prodigy. He advised Liam Lawson to become a Grand Prix driver. As per Sky, Horner explained how Red Bull has previously loaned drivers to the team as he said, “I think there’s only one seat available. We’ve done that in the past when for example Carlos Sainz went on loan to the previous Renault team.”

James Vowles and Christian Horner’s comments do indicate Williams’ considering the Red Bull prodigy and Horner expecting Lawson to get a seat for next year. However, not only the comments but the statistics make sense as well.

Liam Lawson outshines Logan Sargeant within a couple of races

Liam Lawson has only been in F1 for three race weekends with the Japanese GP being his fourth. Ever since he raced in Zandvoort, the Kiwi has been impeccable. The rookie raced an F1 car for the first time in some of the most treacherous conditions. Lawson then finished just outside of points in P11 in Italy. The Singapore GP was super special as he knocked Max Verstappen out in Q2 and then scored a couple of points in the race.

Logan Sargeant on the other hand has zero points in the championship despite being in the car since the start of the season. The American has made multiple unforced errors and crashed into the barriers. Each crash in this cost-cap era ends up costing the team. While many may question the Williams car’s competitiveness, Alex Albon has been excellent and made it into Q3 on multiple occasions.

While nothing is confirmed yet, Liam Lawson along with Alex Albon will prove to be quite a lethal lineup for Williams next season. It also depends on what Sargeant is able to do in this last quarter of the season.
