There are two F1 drivers who have been in an entirely different league over the past couple of years – Sir Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. Consequently, such powerful performances led to the question of, ‘who is better off the two?’

However, is there a way to find out an answer to that big question?

Well, Max’s father and former F1 driver, Jos Verstappen, opined that there is just one way to find out the answer – by placing the two drivers in the same team.

The best thing would be if they were driving the same car,” he said. “Then you can really compare who is the best. I would only applaud it, I think it would be a very nice season. I think the whole world is waiting for that.”

It would definitely be a star-studded line-up with Lewis and Max. However, such a strong line-up could also lead to more problems in the team.

There is just a fine line between a healthy and unhealthy rivalry. With such competitive drivers in the same team, it could only be a matter of time before either one of them cuts across that line.

Jos reckons Max and Lewis are equally strong

The former F1 driver felt that the duo of Lewis and max are equally strong. To prove the point, he considered their teammate battles as an example.

Lewis and Max have by far ousted their teammates over most of the occasions. The seven-time world champion has lost out to his teammates, just twice out of 14 times.

It’s the same as what I say about Max: he’s incredibly strong. Even if you look at how he fares against his teammate,” he said.

At Mercedes, it really worked out for Hamilton. At McLaren, he had a few years in which it didn’t work. You don’t become a world champion if you don’t have a champion team and champion car.”

However, it is highly unlikely that Lewis and Max could team up alongside each other in the near future. With George Russell hanging around outside Mercedes, he could join the team as the successor to either Valtteri Bottas or Lewis Hamilton.

Hence, the chances of witnessing Max driving that Mercedes is extremely bleak. But who knows?

There could be a late twist in the tale. So, can Max get himself lined up alongside his rival, Lewis? Well, let’s hope he does.
