F1 wunderkind Max Verstappen has 19 Grand Prix wins to his name; 9 of those have come in the 2021 F1 season. Although he is equal on points with Lewis Hamilton, an extra Grand Prix win puts him at the top of the standings. In recent times, he does not seem like just a young driver with enormous talent; rather, he looks like an inevitable world champion.

Jos Verstappen recently took an opportunity to discuss the growth of the Red Bull prodigy from scratch. He also shed some light on changing personal equations with his son over time. The former motorsports driver has been an active companion through his son’s racing journey. However, he has taken a back seat in recent times after his steep performance curve.

Max Verstappen draws his own plans

In a recent interview with De Limburger, the Dutchman was asked if he still shares the same bond with his son. He believes that the equation is not the same as it used to be at a certain stage but it’s only logical with changing times.

“He now also has his own life, lives independently, and more often draws his own plan. Letting go sometimes hurts. Seems logical to me, being a father. Max is not someone who communicates much anyway.” said Jos as reported by De Limburger.

“On the other hand, it is also its strength. I may not always like that, but he performs. Then you should leave it that way,” he added.

Jos Verstappen is satisfied with his role

Verstappen senior found the right mix of hard training and fatherly embrace. Being a former motorsports driver himself, he is well acquainted with the pressures and needs of the sport. In a recent interview with Dutch website De Limburger, the 49-year-old also mentioned that he taught Max everything he possibly could, and the young Red Bull driver knows it as well.

“The appreciation, I taste it anyway. I don’t need to hear that every day, and I know what I did for it and Max knows it too,” said Verstappen senior.
