“Just Be Patient” – George Russell Backs Alternative To F1 Sprint Races

George Russell was asked to give his thoughts on the idea of sprint races being introduced in the upcoming season. The Williams driver believes the idea is interesting but thinks having an improved car will be better.
The Grove-based outfit went pointless throughout the 2020 championship. The idea of sprint races being introduced is solely to make the weekend more interesting. The dominance of the top teams, particularly Mercedes, has made the competition bland.
The F1 grid is in two minds about having sprint races being introduced into the competition. The backmarkers want to fight with the top teams, whereas the ones leading hope to dominate.

George Russell urges F1 to be patient
The British driver said, “I don’t know if you guys have any more info, I’ve not really heard what the ideas for the sprint race are and how the formats would work, I think the idea of mixing the weekend up a little bit can be interesting,”

Russell added, “Ultimately, the racing in Formula 1 needs to improve and I think that will improve in 2022 when the car and the technical regulations basically allow the drivers to fight. So we could just be patient.”

Russell hopes to take Williams to the next level
Williams has been struggling at the back of the grid for some time now. However, Russell believes he can take the team to the next level. He has proven that by taking the lackluster car into the second round of qualifying last season.

The Grove-based team has two talented drivers in the form of Russell and Canadian driver, Latifi. The two will be responsible for taking the team ahead in the grid for the upcoming championship.

The team will have a Mercedes engine that will power them for the 2021 season. With an exciting driver lineup, Williams remains optimistic for the season ahead. The two drivers will take to the grid for the opening race in Bahrain on the 28th of March.
