Since the start of the 2023 season, we have seen a completely different side of Fernando Alonso. Yes, we’ve seen the consistent podiums, the incredible race craft, and the years of experience once again thanks to the AMR23. However, we are also witnessing a never seen side of him in his attitude toward his teammate. The Spaniard has been an extremely helpful and nurturing mentor to Lance Stroll so far. In fact, he has been helpful and even the perfect teammate to him. Keeping up with the attitude, the Spaniard gave an ideal reply to address the high ambitions of team owner, Lawrence Stroll.

We are all aware, Lawrence Stroll is an ambitious man, and his details ever since joining the premier class have showcased that. This nature has propelled the team to the front of the grid in a mere five years. This is exactly why the Canadian billionaire ahead of the home GP revealed his high expectations from Alonso and his son for the race. Although, as quoted on Twitter, the Spaniard gave a diplomatic reply.

“You never know. It’s an aggressive target, but we know Lawrence. The ambition is super high. We will try to make him happy and proud,” said Alonso. He is being a perfect mentor for Lance and the Canadian has communicated his appreciation for the same. However, the Canadian is yet to perform at the level expected of him, especially with the car he is driving currently.

This is exactly why Alonso gave an extremely political reply to address the ambitions of his father. However, most wonder how long will this go for. If Lance starts performing better than Alonso, will he maintain this “perfect teammate” dynamic? Some believe he won’t.

Alonso has caught everyone off guard with his helpful teammate persona. This aspect of his life has made him a desirable teammate for many, including 1996 world champion Damon Hill. However, Hill believes this persona and outlook towards his teammate are conditional. He revealed his opinion when asked who Hill would like to be paired with on the current grid.

“I think he would be hysterically funny because I know he’ll be cheeky. So, you’d have to have your wits about you if you’re going to be Fernando’s teammate.” He said and added, “I don’t know, he amuses me, he’s cunning and smart and funny. Probably wouldn’t be quite so funny if you’re beating him.”
