A testament to how dominant the 2x champion has been was on display during today’s Spanish Grand Prix Qualifying session. Unsurprisingly, he clinched the pole. However, he was half a second faster than his nearest competitor! Naturally, nowadays, the way the 25-year-old has been driving, no record is untouchable. And his girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, beamed with pride as she took her social media handles to shower praise on her beau.

As crazy as it may sound, 2023 is the first time Verstappen has secured a pole in Spain. In a session that was marred by tricky conditions, the Dutch lion, as always, kept his cool and composure to string a blistering lap. In the aftermath, Piquet took to her Instagram account to boast about her boyfriend’s exploits.

As is customary, the official Instagram account of Formula 1 posted a graphic of Verstappen to announce to the world that he had clinched his first-ever pole in Barcelona. They captioned the post, “Taking POLE in Barcelona for the first time.”

Piquet, daughter to 3x champion, Nelson Piquet, then swiftly logged into her own Instagram account to re-share this post. Such is Verstappen’s dominance that Piquet could only muster one word! She captioned her story, “Unstoppable.”

After a blistering start to the season, Monaco was the first bump in Perez’s title bid. However, even though it is still too early in the season, Spain became a do-or-die situation for the Mexican. Unfortunately for him, he failed.

According to MARCA, “Making the session even better for the Dutchman was the fact that his Red Bull teammate and world championship rival Sergio Perez didn’t even make Q3, finishing 11th,” after a costly mistake in his flying lap ruined his tires and his chances to move into Q3.
