2007 F1 world champion Kimi Raikkonen bid adieu to the sport after the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. One of the most loved figures of the sport, Raikkonen enjoyed a 20-year long stint in F1, racing for multiple outfits. Raikkonen carried a distinct personality; his off-track persona added beautifully to his on-track heroics.
A true family man, a straightforward interviewee, and a racer extraordinaire may have left the sport, but his legacy continues. In a recent interview, Raikkonen said that he is delighted with the decision to step away from the fast-paced sport. The Iceman has seen the transition of F1 like no other driver on the 2021 F1 grid. His debut dates back to 2001 for the Sauber team and he entered his last race with the Alfa Romeo team.
The Finn has been highly critical of the changing scenarios in F1. He famously veiled a strict warning towards FIA against holding a longer race calendar every passing year.

With triple headers becoming a norm, he warned the top body of possible burnouts of the mechanics in the paddock.
In a recent interview reported by Motorsport, Raikkonen said his decision to step away was right as he could not bear the politics inside.

Kimi Raikkonen believes money is driving F1
After an illustrious career, when Kimi retired, it was not just because his zeal to drive was fading. Many more factors contributed to it. Talking to Motorsport.com, he laid out the things he didn’t like about F1, especially in the second half of his career. “There are so many things that don’t make sense, at least for me, in Formula 1. I’m talking about all the bulls**t that goes around,” said Raikkonen.
“We know, but no one says anything. These are things that should not even exist. Many things are false in here. It’s nice to be outside. Mentally it’s very nice to be out of all that bulls**t.”
“Money has changed things in F1 as well, as in every sport. The more money you put into it, the more politics there is. It happens like this everywhere, in every country. For sure money plays an important role, as does power. I think people want to have power. I think there might be a lot of good politicians who would do well in current politics,” he added.
