Kimi Raikkonen’s Legendary McLaren F1 Car Put Up for a Giant Auction

Kimi Raikkonen is an icon in the world of Formula One. So it is no surprise the cars that he has driven will be iconic. As the Finnish driver has announced his retirement from the sport, his McLaren F1 car has been put up for sale.

McLaren-Mercedes MP4-17 which was driven by the Iceman in 2002 will be auctioned. With Raikkonen leaving the sport at the end of the season, it is no doubt that avid F1 fans, at least those who can afford will put a bid for the iconic car.

The Finnish driver had just signed for the Woking-based outfit after spending his rookie year at Sauber. He and McLaren went on to form an iconic partnership, but one that didn’t get their hands on either of the championships.

Now in 2021, that same McLaren which Kimi was behind the wheel of is u for grabs. It is reported that RM Sotheby‘s in St. Moritz is putting the car for sale. It is stated the car will have a price tag between 1.84 and 2.3 million euros.

It wasn’t the first McLaren up for sale

Another iconic partnership which the Woking-based outfit had was one with Lewis Hamilton. Recently, they had auctioned his 2010 car, which was put for sale by RM Sotheby.

The car fetched a whooping £4,836,000 at the Silverstone circuit. So it seeing how much that car was sold for, McLaren would hope that Kimi’s car could equal it or get a better price.

Knowing the history the team’s history in the sport of Formula One, there could be a serious bidding war to get their hands on of the of most memorable cars ever to grace an F1 track.
