“King of the Streets” – Looking Back at Max Verstappen’s Spectacular Charge Throughout the 2021 Season

The fans are all set for the fag end of the 2021 F1 championship battle. The two title rivals find themselves at equal points going into the high voltage season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit. However, Mercedes and Lewis Hamilton will be high on confidence after clinching 3 back-to-back wins, the latest being on the street circuit of Jeddah over Max Verstappen who finished P2.
The 2021 F1 calendar included three street circuits of Baku, Monaco, and Jeddah. While Hamilton pulled off a win in Jeddah, the most successful driver on the street circuits this season was Max Verstappen. He is followed by his teammate Sergio Perez in second while Hamilton stands third on the list.

Max Verstappen is “King of the Streets”
Verstappen is having a dominant 2022 season with 9 wins and 17 podiums under his belt so far. As we head into the final race of the season, let’s take a look at his dominant performances on the three street circuits.
Verstappen recorded the fastest lap in the final practice session before heading into qualifying. He missed out on the pole by two-tenths of a second to Charles Leclerc.

However, polesitter Charles Leclerc failed to take the start after suffering a pre-race driveshaft issue, and Verstappen breezed to his maiden Monaco GP win. In addition to that, the Dutchman also took the Championship lead after Hamilton finished P7 in the race.
Verstappen had an impressive qualifying session and started third on the grid. He passed the polesitter Leclerc on lap 7 of the Grand Prix. Later in the race, he mastered the lap 35 safety car restart and looked set to get home his maiden Baku GP win. However, he spun and crashed out of the race 5 laps before the end, because of a tire failure. Sergio Perez went on to win the race.

The most dramatic of all, the Jeddah Corniche Circuit witnessed a race disarrayed by multiple red flags and safety cars. Lewis Hamilton came home to win the race, followed by Max Verstappen in second. The Dutchman had a strong yet disappointing weekend. He missed out on pole after he ran into the wall on his pole-winning flyer during the qualifying session.
Following that, he led the race for a stint before handing it out to the Briton following a controversial overtake. He came home in second and now finds himself equal on points with the seven-time world champion.

As it stands, The Red Bull star has 43 points under his belt at the three street circuits and he can be rightfully crowned as “King of the streets”
