

AJ Foyt Racing team has announced Colombian driver Tatiana Calderon as the latest addition to their 2022 NTT Indycar line-up. With this move, Calderon became the first female driver to compete for the US-based team. The ROKiT Group is expanding its partnership with AJ Foyt Racing for 2022. Notably, ROKiT has links with F1 as well. The group was a title sponsor with the Williams team from 2019 to 2020.
The global conglomerate recently announced their partnership with the team owned by the legendary four-time Indianapolis 500 winner.

The team has hired Calderon to drive the No. 11 ROKiT Chevrolet in road and street course events. There is no official stamp on who would be their pilot on the oval tracks.

After a welcome announcement from the team, Calderon discussed her approach and future prospects with the team. In a recent interview, Calderon said that the US-based series has been a reference for her since she started motor-racing years ago. āIām thrilled and very thankful to Jonathan Kendrick, ROKiT, and AJ Foyt Racing for the opportunity to race in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES,ā said the Colombian as reported by Indycar.

āEver since I started my single-seater career in the United States 11 years ago, INDYCAR has been a reference for me, and itās a dream come true to be on the grid this year. I canāt wait to get to St. Petersburg for the first race of the season.ā
Moreover, the 28-year-old said that she is well aware of the challenges this event will pose but this is a rare chance and she is ready to give it all. āIām well aware of the challenge ahead, but this is the chance of a lifetime, and Iām keen on making the most of it.ā
Notably, Tatiana Calderon is a test driver of the Alfa Romeo F1 team. Before being announced as an Indy car driver, she was racing for Richard Mille Racing in the FIA World Endurance Championship.

The 17-race calendar in the 2022 NTT Indycar series is set to begin from February 27 through September 11. The inaugural race is in St. Petersburg and the season finale will be held in Laguna Seca.
