It’s no secret that every single driver on a Formula 1 grid is a winner. They’ve been winners in their respective junior careers, and that is exactly why they have a place in the sport. That being said, the taste of champagne tends to wane off a bit once you reach F1. The simple reason behind this is that, even if a driver is a bona fide superstar behind the wheel, success in Formula 1 is often dependent on your machinery. Not everything is down to talent. Lewis Hamilton would testify to this after his sordid 2022 season. Luck plays a very important role, too. Lando Norris is a driver who has been touted as a future World Champion. But then what has been stopping him from realizing this dream with McLaren?

In this sport, statistics often deceive. F1 fans know how good a driver is, but on paper, they might as well pack their bags up. Norris will start his 5th year in the sport this season. But in the half-decade that he has been with McLaren, he hasn’t won a single Grand Prix. Now, to a layperson, this stat alone could be enough to write the 23-year-old off. However, his struggles in a mid-field team have morphed the way a younger Norris would’ve gauged the meaning of the word success.

In an interview with This Morning UK, the Brit was quizzed about how he measured success. Norris replied, “As a driver, I want to win. And that is something I haven’t done yet in Formula 1. But you have to take one year at a time and kinda understand what success is in every single race. So, it was a good year last year but I’m more excited for this year.”

Norris was once hailed as the next Lewis Hamilton. And surely, the young Brit would hope, in the coming years, to take the fight up to the likes of the 7x champ and Max Verstappen.

Crash.net quoted the McLaren driver as saying, “We are a team who should be able to win championships and we soon have everything in place to do so. I am probably not the most patient guy but it’s something you need to learn to have when you get into F1. Until then, I am just doing my job to achieve everything I can one weekend at a time and that’s the way I go about it.”
