Lando Norris Warns McLaren’s Fairytale F1 Run Could Suddenly End

So far in the 2021 Formula One season, Lando Norris has been enjoying great success. After 3 races, the young Briton finds himself in 3rd in the Drivers’ Championship Standings.
His podium at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix also boosted his chances. Without a doubt, the McLaren driver would have never expected to be right at Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen’s tails.
“I mean, I think things have gone very well for us,” he said. “I feel like I’m doing a good job myself through qualifying and putting in the laps when I need to.

“Maybe not so much at Imola or Portugal in Q3… but everything apart form that has gone very well and the race as well, on the restarts, the launches, a lot of things are going well but it’s just as easy for it to go not so well.
“I’m not getting my hopes up too much for every race. We’ll try to do what we’re doing and continue it, but it very easily could be a P6, a P7 or a P8. I’m realistic, but I’m sure we can continue what we’re doing.”
Can Lando Norris sustain this over the season?
Theoretically, Norris is capable of sustaining his strong position. It is only a matter of finishing ahead of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez, as much as possible. In addition to that, consistency is key this season, though he warned that this dream run may not last.
Red Bull and Mercedes are obviously in a class of their own. Scuderia Ferrari is also looking quite threatening, especially with Charles Leclerc leading the charge.

Unfortunately for McLaren, Daniel Ricciardo is still taking some time to find his feet. This means that poor old Norris has to shoulder the team’s championship hopes for the time being.

If Ricciardo can buck up and sort out his issues, it will be a big boon. This is largely because it takes two cars to really mount a championship charge. The Constructors’ Championship holds more weight as compared to that of the drivers.
What’s more, it will also help McLaren’s own reputation as serious contenders. After years of struggling at the back or in the midfield, it is great to see the Woking-based outfit’s progress.
