We are well and truly underway with the brand-new F1 season. One of the biggest and most glamorous attractions for the season will be the much-awaited Las Vegas GP. The infrastructure around the $240 million fixture is under construction. The latest update, however, coming out is that of destruction though. Do not worry, it is all part of the project that aims to take F1 to new heights towards the end of the year.

The Vegas GP will be spread over 4 days, as opposed to the 3 that we are used to seeing in F1. It will all start on Wednesday, the day for all the starry performances for the opening ceremony. On Thursday, we’ll have the practice sessions with qualifying scheduled for Friday. The race will finally start at 10 PM PST on Saturday, which makes it 1 AM for the East Coast. Liberty Media is expecting to generate $500 million in revenue from the inaugural edition of the penultimate race of the season.

The latest coming from ground zero is that Caesar’s Palace and Clark County are planning on demolishing a rotunda outside of their property. The demolition will take place to make way for the Vegas GP infrastructure and will cost around $157,500. As per Fox5vegas.com, “Demolition permits show that the 5,006 sq. ft. rotunda on the west side of Las Vegas Boulevard, across from the LINQ, will be demolished along with landscaping, planters, pillars, statues and obelisk.”

In an earlier interview, Liberty Media CEO Greg Maffei revealed that Liberty Media had entered an agreement to acquire 39 acres of land east of the Strip to build paddocks, pits, hospitality, and other venues for the fixture.

F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali confident of the success of the Las Vegas GP

The Vegas GP will be a street race, running under the lights. In most other races, organizers pay F1 a fee to host the race. However, realizing the money-making potential in Vegas, F1, and Liberty Media are personally investing and taking the hosting responsibilities along with Live Nation.

Sharing his vision on the inaugural Vegas fixture, Stefano Domenicali was quoted by Racer.com as saying, “The Las Vegas Grand Prix is going to take F1 race weekends to the next level.”
