Even though Lando Norris finished at P5, he was not the most optimistic after the race. Talking to the press, Lando feels this result was track specific and not a sign of what’s to come. He feels Daniel and himself will face a harsh reality as the season progresses and they experience other tracks.

Daniel, on the other hand, has a more positive outlook on the situation and their future. Daniel agrees with Lando, but only partly, as he expressed in his post-match interview. He feels there’s truth in Lando’s words, at least for the first part of the season. Daniel agrees Mclaren will perform better in particular tracks compared to others. But hopes this will change in the future.

But Ricciardo is looking towards the races to come with a positive outlook, unlike his teammate. Ricciardo added, “I don’t want to think ahead and be like, oh we’re gonna struggle on this sorta circuit, I think we have to take a result today which if you asked us in Bahrain we probably would’ve laughed, sarcastically”.

He is taking the Australian Grand Prix result as a positive one and taking his wins as he gets them. As this being the best result for him by far in the current Formula 1 season.

Not as fast as Ricciardo thought

Daniel even talked about racing against the Mercedes pair during the race. During the first half of the race, they were in there with the Mercedes and in traffic, he felt a bit competitive.

But after all the drama and a few DNFs, the Mclaren pair finished in top ten and both can take away some points for the team.
